Evaluate your Jewellery Care
The golden choice
Look for karat quality marks and a trademark. Make sure your sales receipt lists the karat quality of the item purchased. All gold jewellery with a karat mark must also have a trademark that identifies the manufacturer.
Ensure that the diamonds and other gemstones, if engraved, are genuine.
Remember that the price of your jewellery covers not only the cost of gold used in the piece but also the cost of designing and crafting.
K FOR KARAT. THE SPARK OF PURITY
Being a soft metal, gold is mixed with other metals to make it more durable. Gold gets its different colours (white gold, rose gold etc) from the metals with which the pure gold is combined with. The karat mark lets you know what percentage is actual gold. 24k is gold in its 100% pure form- soft, extremely delicate and the choice of the most discerning: 18k is 75% gold: 22k is 91.6% gold and 24k is 100% gold.
